Track and field: Davis beats Coco and the state’s best mark

Jessica Davis of Highland knocked more than a second off her season-best time and eclipsed the state’s best mark in the girls’ 200 meters Saturday at the Southern Section-Toyota Championships at Mt. SAC.

Davis’ 23.40 bettered Long Beach Poly freshman sensation Coco Ndipagbor’s 23.91 in the Division I race. The previous best mark this season was 23.54 by Ashton Purvis of Oakland St. Elizabeth, which was set at the Arcadia Invitational.

Other champions were Cindy Robinson of Norwalk in Division II, Gwendolyn Flowers of Compton Centennial in Division III, and Yasmin Woodruff of St. Mary’s Academy, who had the third-fastest time at 24.10, in Division IV.
