The boys’ 1,600 relay was all about the Dominguez foursome of Kivon Grant, Manoah Wesson, Leon Dillihunt and Aaron Hestor. They combined to break the Division I record set by Hawthorne in 1985. Dominguez ran it in 3 minutes 11.87 seconds, eclipsing Hawthorne’s 3:12.23.

In-depth coverage of the Dons’ record-setting performance can be found in Dan Arrit’s account. It was also the state’s fastest time, beating the mark of 3:12.13.

Although Dominguez beat Long Beach Poly in a good race, there was an outstanding race in Division III as well. Crespi made a last-lap pass for the lead and hung on -- barely -- to nip Orange Lutheran. Crespi stopped the clock at 3:15.91, to Lutheran’s 3:16.07. Servite was there at the end too, at 3:17.28, and all three qualified for the Masters Meet on Friday at Cerritos College.

Roosevelt won in Division II, and Santa Ynez took the Division IV title with a time of 3:24.67.
