Track and field: Dominguez’s Walker improves his 110 hurdles standard

Devron Walker, a senor from Compton Dominguez, ran the fastest time in the state in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles Saturday at the Southern Section-Toyota Championships at Mt. SAC. Walker’s 13.87 beat his previous state-best time of 14.14 set last week in the Division I preliminaries.

Makio Island of Crespi made a good run at the existing top state mark en route to winning the Division III title in 14.19. Ryan Holmes, ranked No. 2 in the state coming into the day at 14.32, won the Division II title in a time of 14.27, which was only the fourth-best result of the meet.

James Kennedy of Gardena Serra won the the Division IV title in 14.99.
