Crescenta Valley’s Zack Torres qualified for Friday’s Masters meet in Cerritos with a time of 9:21.60 in the Southern Section-Toyota Division I boys’ 3,200 meters championships. That’s a good thing, except he is the starting second baseman on the Falcons’ baseball team, which will play at El Toro on Tuesday.

If Crescenta Valley moves on in the playoffs, it will play on Friday, the same day as the Masters, though they take place in the evening at Cerritos College. Torres, also the son of the team’s head coach, Phil Torres, will have a decision to make if it gets to that point.
