Orange Lutheran’s Blake Ayles collects awards and trophies as if they were baseball cards.

Ayles, who is headed to USC on a football scholarship this fall, crushed the competition in the boys’ discus with a throw of 184 feet 6 inches to win the Southern Section-Toyota Division III championship Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College. Ayles, who was The Times’ lineman of the year last season, was more than 13 feet better than the second-place finisher, Korben Boaz of Nipomo, who had a throw of 171-9.

Esperanza’s Jake Pendelton, a junior, won the Division I title. Newport Harbor’s Cecil Whiteside, a sophomore, won Division II, and Templeton’s Justin Cutler, a senior, won Division IV.
