So much for Woodland Hills Taft putting up a fight against third-seeded Roosevelt in the opening round of the City Section playoffs. Roosevelt scored 11 runs -- all with two outs -- in the second inning to take an 11-0 lead.

It means Coach Scott Pearson probably won’t have to use ace left-hander Martin Villanueva much longer and can save him for the second round on Friday against Cleveland or San Fernando.

It was a nightmare inning for Taft and junior pitcher Ryan Santhon. There were two outs and runners on second and third when everything began to unravel. A wild pitch scored one run. An error scored another. There was a hit batter, then two walks to score the third run. An infield single scored two more runs. Another walk, then a bad-hop single off the face of the shortstop scored two more runs. A throwing error by the catcher made it 8-0. Then Frank Aguilar hit a three-run home run.
