D.J. Morgan was supposed to win the 110 hurdles during Thursday’s City Section championships at Birmingham High. And the sophomore from Taft did, impressively, I might add, outclassing the competition by winning in a time of 14.28 -- well ahead of Sun Valley Poly’s Stallone Watson (14.45) and Dorsey’s Jeremy Harris (14.69).

Morgan wasn’t expected to win the 100 meters, but surprisingly, finished in first with a time of 10.80, edging Watson in a photo finish. It doesn’t look like there’s way to stop this kid. Morgan has become the talk of the meet.

Next up: an appearance in the 300 hurdles for Morgan, an event he’s favored in, considering he had the best time (38.39) at last week’s City preliminaries. The race is minutes away from the start. Next time you hear from me, don’t be surprised if there’s another update about a Morgan win.
