Track and field: Nelms proves why she’s one of the City’s best

After watching Nijah Nelms run well in last week’s preliminaries, I knew what to expect when the time came for the senior from Birmingham to compete during Thursday’s City Section championships at Birmingham High. True to form, she didn’t disappoint.

Nelms, one of the most-sought recruits on the West Coast, finished first in the 100- and 200-meter dashes in times of 11.92 and 24.71, respectively. Moreover, she ran the second leg in the 400 relay, helping the Patriots to a victory.
