Baseball: Lopes goes deep to give Valencia early lead

It didn’t take long for Valencia to get on the board in Friday’s Southern Section-Toyota Division I quarterfinal game as Christian Lopes smashed the third pitch he saw from Simi Valley’s Drew Sandler deep over the left-field fence to give the visiting Vikings a 1-0 lead.

Dylan Jones and Robbie Mousselli followed with singles. The fourth-seeded Pioneers, Sandler in particular, had better figure things out, and quickly, or this game could get out of hand. Tommy Ferdino just fouled out for the first out of the first inning. Stay tuned for updates.
