Baseball: Top-seeded Los Alamitos is taken down by Mater Dei, 5-4

It took nine innings, but visiting Mater Dei hung on for a 5-4 victory over top-seeded Los Alamitos in a Southern Section-Toyota Division I quarterfinal game.

Mater Dei scored three runs in the ninth, then saw Los Alamitos’ Matt Avery hit a two-run home run with two outs. Jake Hamblin struck out Travis Garrett to end the game.
