Baseball: Pair of aces going toe-to-toe in Ventura County

With Mikel Beltran and Tyler Chatwood on the mound, I expected a pitching duel in Saturday’s Southern Section-Toyota Division II quarterfinal showdown between top-seeded Redlands East Valley and Oxnard. So far, so good. Both have been seemingly unhittable.

The Wildcats have had a tough time figuring out Beltran, who has given up two hits in two innings. His counterpart, Chatwood, has been equally effective. The senior has allowed a pair of hits to Oxnard, which is batting in the third in a ballgame that’s tied, 0-0.
