Baseball: Things getting more interesting in Division II quarterfinal

This one is close. With the score tied at 1-1 in the top of sixth inning, Saturday’s Southern Section-Toyota Division II quarterfinal between top-seeded Redlands East Valley and Oxnard could come down to which team is up at the plate last. And in this case, it would be the Wildcats.

See, the game was originally scheduled to be played in the Inland Empire, but it had to be moved to Oxnard because the recent inclement weather damaged the field at Redlands East Valley. Therefore, the Wildcats are considered the home team for this showdown.

Wildcats starter Tyler Chatwood gave up five hits in five innings, but he was just pulled from the game in the top of the sixth. Reliever Jeremy Perez allowed the first two batters he faced to reach base. Let’s see if he can work his way out of this jam.

If not, Redlands East Valley will have only two more at-bats to either tie the score or take the lead. Strangely enough, this thing might be decided by the Wildcats in the bottom of the seventh...
