Boys’ volleyball: Valencia sweeps to Division II championship

Top-seeded Valencia won its fourth section championship in six years Saturday when it won the Southern Section-Toyota Division II final at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Valencia swept second-seeded Santa Barbara, 25-16, 32-30, 25-22, behind the play of Derrick Trent, Skyler Seymour and Jamey Ker -- among others. Valencia is 35-2.

It’s the fourth final that Santa Barbara (30-5) has lost since it last won a title, in 1992. The Dons were also runners-up last season, losing to Corona del Mar in the final.
