It’s a four-peat. Viewpoint won its fourth consecutive division title after beating top-seeded Salesian in five games, 25-22, 25-21, 14-25, 22-25, 15-13, in the Southern Section-Toyota Division V finals Saturday morning at Cal State Dominguez Hills. “This had to be the toughest playoffs of them all,” said Viewpoint Coach Mike Talamantes.

Yes, and this was one tough match.

The second-seeded Patriots (29-7) jumped to a two-game advantage, then Salesian struck, winning the next two. In the final game, it was tied at nine before Viewpoint ended on a 6-4 run to win it. “We unraveled for a bit, then found our rhythm again,” Talamantes said.

Brian Farrell especially found his rhythm with 22 kills to lead the Patriots, who also beat the Mustangs in last year’s finals.

Bernard Luna had 24 kills and Cameron Walker added 20 for Salesian (23-1). “It was close but we made too many errors in the end,” said Salesian Coach Pedro Lopez .
