Baseball: Division I semifinal is under way

It’s a sparse gathering of fewer than 100 people as the Southern Section-Toyota Division I semifinal game between Mater Dei and Simi Valley gets under way at UC Riverside.
Junior right-hander Ian McCarthy (8-1) is on the mound for Mater Dei. Senior left-hander Nick Russo (8-2) will be pitching for Simi Valley, which is the visiting team. Brent Keys of Simi Valley led off with a single. I expect some runs to be scored. Norco takes on Long Beach Wilson in the second game of the doubleheader at 7 p.m.
A trip to Dodger Stadium on Friday goes to the victors.
