Diamond Bar edged Palm Desert, 9-9, (84-73) Wednesday to win the Southern Section-Toyota Division II championship at the Claremont Club. The victory helps make up for last season, when Diamond Bar lost in the finals to San Marino.

Senior Victor Chien led the Brahmas (24-1) to the school’s first boys’ tennis title by winning each of his matches by the score of 6-0. His teammates were chanting “MVP, MVP” afterward.

“How can you not call him MVP after that performance?” Diamond Bar coach Dave Hamel said. ‘He was huge.’

Said Chien: “I knew [the match] was going to be close and I didn’t want to give up any games. I was on a mission. Last season, we left feeling very bitter. Our goal was to win it all this year, and we did that.”
