Tennis: Is Taft’s Tchan prepared to take the next step?

Josh Tchan could end up being the next big thing in Valley tennis, a scary thought when considering the fact he’s so young. One thing is certain: We’re going to find out if the junior from Taft can take another step today toward realizing his potential.

Tchan will face Ken Mkrtchian of SOCES in the City Section individual semifinals at the Balboa Sports Complex in Encino. If the underclassman wins, he’ll advance to Monday’s finals against the winner of the other semi between Dillon Klincke of North Hollywood and Dennis Mkrtchian of SOCES.

I’m heading out to see Tchan play in about 15 minutes and will keep everyone posted on how he does. Expect updates from the doubles semifinals as well.
