Baseball: Avalon and Viewpoint will play it all over again

Was hoping to get ahold of Frank Pontello, the coach at Viewpoint, before Thursday’s Southern Section-Toyota Division VII semifinal against Avalon to find out what he thought about the Patriots winning their protest to have the game replayed. But unfortunately, I couldn’t catch him.

Viewpoint lost to host Avalon, 8-7, on Tuesday, but the Patriots disputed the semifinal result because the game wasn’t played on a regulation field. Southern Section officials agreed Wednesday and decided to reschedule the showdown for today at Millikan High in Long Beach.

First pitch is set for 2 p.m. Maybe I can get a reaction from Pontello about the whole situation at some point before the game starts. If not, I’m sure he’ll have plenty to say afterward. Either way, expect score updates and highlights throughout the course of the afternoon.
