The best thing that’s happened to Avalon in Thursday’s Southern Section-Toyota Division VII semifinal game against Viewpoint was when Patriots starter Ben Salzman exited the game after throwing three innings of scoreless ball while giving up only four hits at Millikan High in Long Beach.

The Lancers have managed to score two runs off reliever Gil Brozki to cut their deficit to 5-2 in the top of the sixth inning. I’m imagining Viewpoint Coach Frank Pontello yanked Salzman to save him for this weekend’s title game, provided Brozki does his job and the Patriots win.
