Baseball: Sherman Oaks CES leads Maywood, 1-0

Sherman Oaks CES’ Matt Baker hit the first two Maywood batters he faced in the top of the second inning during Friday’s City Section Small Schools Division final at USC, but he managed to escape the jam after Rafael Rubio was forced at second base and Felipe Acosta and Josh Espinoza both struck out.

Baker’s teammates rewarded the effort with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Zach Edgerton-Torti led off with a single, moved to second on a fielder’s choice and scored on Ruben Castelo’s throwing error to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.

Maywood failed to score in the top half of third inning and David Domboroski is stepping up to the plate for Sherman Oaks CES to lead off the bottom half of the third.
