Boys’ Tennis: Third set will decide City Individual singles champ

There’s been a dramatic turn of events here at the City Section Individual tournament. Taft junior Josh Tchan was cruising in the singles final, winning 6-0, 3-0 and up 40-love on his serve when freshman Dennis Mkrtchian of Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies suddenly caught fire.

Mkrtchian won four straight points to break Tchan and eventually pulled out the set, 7-5. So they’ll play one more set to decide the City title.

Top-seeded Andrew Sarawasi and Sammy Macias of Carson just wrapped up the doubles title with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Palisades’ Matt Goodman and Jeremy Shore.
