John Rye, an outfielder from Florida State by way of Woodbridge High, was selected by the New York Yankees with the 410th overall pick Friday in Major League Baseball’s first-year player draft. Is it just me, or does it seem that the Yankees are stockpiling picks from the Southland?

Daniel Pertusati, a second baseman from Damien High, was taken by the Florida Marlins with pick No. 388, and Matthew Daily, a right-handed pitcher from the University of Hawaii by way of Esperanza High, was drafted 399th by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Erik Wetzel, a second baseman from Fresno State by way of Don Lugo High, was selected by the Colorado Rockies with pick No. 407, and Winston ‘Ollie’ Linton, an outfielder from UC Irvine by way of Crespi High, was picked 408th by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

If I’ve missed any of our local players who have been drafted out of college, let me know!
