Baseball: Bauer is impressive at national team tryouts

Newhall Hart pitcher Trevor Bauer threw 10 shutout innings at the Tournament of Champions in North Carolina last week. He’s one of 34 players invited to head to Phoenix to continue tryouts for the under-18 U.S. national team.

Also in the running are catcher Cameron Garfield from Murrieta Valley, pitcher Wes Hatton from Norco, outfielder Jacob Marisnick from Riverside Poly, pitcher Tyler Matzek from Capistrano Valley, infielder Jonathan Meyer from Simi Valley, infielder Jiovanni Mier from Bonita and infielder David Nick from Cypress.

The team will be announced on July 17.
