When it come to recruiting on the national level, Roberto Nelson from Santa Barbara has made plenty of noise during the spring and summer hoops evaluation period, equal to the constant ruckus created by Southern California counterparts such as Renardo Sidney, Jordan Hamilton and brothers David and Travis Wear.

And it was one of those things that you could see coming from a mile away too.

The 6-foot-3 senior guard saw his stock skyrocket in the eyes of Division I scouts back in late April. Little has changed since. ‘Things have been happening fast. It’s kind of weird,’’ Nelson said. ‘I’ve got schools from everywhere calling me all the time. I’m blessed to be in this situation but I’m going to have to narrow down my list soon.’’

Last time we checked in, several programs from the Pac-10 Conference, most notably UCLA and USC, had been in contact with him. Not surprisingly, schools from the Big 12 and SEC quickly followed suit, with Ohio State and Florida at the forefront in the Nelson sweepstakes, which is showing no signs of slowing down.
