The Southland is home to several of the nation’s top wideouts, as noted in this blog that surfaced around these parts about a week ago. Instead of going into detail about what Randall Carroll and Shaquelle Evans have been up to lately, for the umpteenth time, I thought it best to take a look at some of the more underrated pass catchers from the surrounding regions.

  • Having been on the end of numerous spirals thrown by a high-profile quarterback certainly helped Kevin Chandler get noticed by Division I scouts. In fact, the 6-foot senior from Mission Viejo was Cal-bound Allan Bridgford‘s main target a season ago and he recently returned from a trip to Oregon State.
  • If you check out this site regularly, you should be somewhat familiar with Kevin Cummings. One thing is certain: The coaching staff at Ohio State is extremely familiar with the 6-foot-1 senior from Crespi after his visit to Columbus less than two weeks ago. Click here for quotes about the encounter.
  • Ron McCrory of Chaminade has been busy the last couple of months. Unofficial stops in Arizona, Washington and UCLA have been made, but unfortunately there were no scholarship offers waiting for the 5-foot-11 senior. There are, however, reports indicating Wyoming has a deal on the table.
  • There’s been all kinds of talk on the Internet about the fact that programs such as Arizona State, Syracuse and UNLV were in the Los Angeles area, more specifically, at Crenshaw High, to catch a glimpse of Noel Grigsby. The 5-foot-10 senior is also being recruited by the likes of Cal, Oregon and Oregon State.
