If you’re a Nadal Street regular or a self-proclaimed Foothill League basketball guru, you probably remember the name Kris Rincon. You know the guy -- in 2005-06, the 6-foot-6 forward averaged a team-best 14.6 ppg and 10 rpg to spearhead Canyon‘s march to the league title. He also picked up a Foothill League MVP honor along the way.

So now that I’ve jogged your memory, you might find it interesting to know that Rincon is still finding success in his life even though it’s away from the court. The 20-year-old is entering his junior year on scholarship at the University of Arizona and was recently chosen to take part in the NASCAR Diversity Internship Program.

Rincon, who’s majoring in business management and marketing, is interning at Brand Sense Partners in Los Angeles this summer, and he’s also participating in other NASCAR internship projects. He also gets to work alongside the NASCAR crowd when the stock car circus makes its semiannual trek to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana on Aug. 31 (be sure to pack those earplugs, Kris).

But more than anything, Rincon is a prime example of a student-athlete who’s still hitting all the right shots. This is a guy who had the athletic prowess and the brains to play somewhere in college, but decided to take the academic route -- and it’s paying off big time.
