Chris Cunningham might not be the most well-known big man from the Southland, that distinction typically reserved for someone such as Fairfax’s Renardo Sidney or Mater Dei’s David and Travis Wear. And if we’re talking about post players, I suppose I should throw Village Christian’s Bak Bak into the mix.

But, if there is one individual capable of succeeding without necessarily having to be a household name, it’s Cunningham. The 6-foot-7 Diamond Ranch senior has proved as much time after time, so it shouldn’t come as a big surprise to learn that he committed to Santa Clara recently, according to this report.

A place like Gonzaga, perhaps Pepperdine, was once thought to be a possible destination. That is, until several Pacific 10 Conference programs discovered him. Luckily for the Broncos backers, Coach Kerry Keating did his homework and never was bothered by the fact that Cunningham didn’t possess the star power of some of his peers.
