Football: Garfield has tied up Birmingham, 14-14

Garfield, the City Invitational champion last season, has tied up Birmingham, 14-14, with a brilliant 65-yard, 13-play drive to start the third quarter. It ended with Franky Diaz catching a 10-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Vargas with 5:27 left in the third quarter.

Birmingham is used to stopping teams who try to run the ball, but Garfield continues to challenge the Patriots behind Diaz, Sergio Macedo and Omar Hernandez. The Bulldogs keep using large amounts of time on offense, keeping Birmingham’s potent offense off the field.

Birmingham comes in with a 13-game win streak, and the Patriots had better pick up the intensity on defense or end up on the losing end.
