After last year’s appearance in the Division I state bowl game, expectations are high at Corona Centennial even though RB Ryan Bass and QB Matt Scott have hit the college trail.

And Friday night’s road game against Chaparral, ranked No. 13 by The Times, will be the first big test for the defending Inland Division champions. The Huskies, ranked No. 2 by The Times, beat Chaparral, 68-14, in the division semifinals last year and Centennial Coach Matt Logan knows the Pumas are looking for revenge.

Of course, Centennial is more than just a shadow of its formal self. USC-bound linebacker Vontaze Burfict anchors one of the Southland’s best defenses and Nebraska-bound QB Taylor Martinez is hoping to show off the promise that made him a standout at Cajon. But will that be enough to push the Huskies to another bowl game?
