As Moorpark took on host Sherman Oaks Notre Dame on Friday night, players were aware that a Metrolink train bound for Moorpark had crashed into a freight train in Chatsworth, according to Coach Tim Lins.

‘We knew about it,’ Lins said. ‘We were seeing the [helicopters] flying over the top of us back and forth.’

As of Saturday morning, Lins said he had heard that a relative of a Moorpark teacher had died in the accident.

Notre Dame defeated Moorpark, 17-14.
