It didn’t take long for the members of the Simi Valley football team to find out the disheartening news about the Metrolink crash that happened in Chatsworth on Friday. In fact, the Pioneers were on their way out to Ventura to face host Buena in the season opener.

Coach Todd Borowski had the unenviable task of informing his players about the tragedy just before kickoff. A day later, there is still cause for concern. Apparently, several of his players have family members that were directly affected by the incident.

‘Around here, we know a lot of people who commute by train, so things have been tough. We’re still trying to unravel this whole mess,’’ Borowski said Saturday morning without going into specifics. ‘We’re a tight-knit community, so when something like this hits one person, it hits us all.’’

‘We’re hoping, and praying that everyone is safe. Each and every time my phone rings, I try not to think the worst and just hope for the best. In situations like this, that’s all you can do. We’re just trying to absorb everything right now. We’re a family here at Simi Valley and are going to stick together.’’
