There were several big-time performances turned in Friday night, particularly from running backs in the greater San Fernando Valley and Ventura County regions. Now keep in mind, there’s no possible way to mention every standout effort, but here’s a quick look at some of the best numbers I happened to stumble upon while doing some research.

  • John Lister: The senior from Thousand Oaks rushed for 297 yards and three scores in a 28-6 victory over Buena. He has 462 yards rushing in two games thus far and is making me look good for posting this blog approximately 10 days ago.
  • Cierre Wood: After missing the first quarter due to disciplinary reasons, the Notre Dame-bound senior from Santa Clara made up for lost time by rushing for 259 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-7 victory over Channel Islands.
  • Trevion Johnson: Listed around 5-foot-7 and less than 175 pounds, the senior from North Hollywood might be considered slight of stature, but his efforts were anything but small. He rushed for 236 yards on 24 carries in a 42-7 loss to Sylmar.
  • Dietrich Riley: There’s a reason why UCLA and USC have offered the junior from St. Francis a scholarship. For example, he gained 212 yards on the ground in 22 carries and scored three touchdowns in a 27-13 victory over Crescenta Valley.
  • Cameron Roberson: The Newbury Park junior filled in admirably for the injured Chris Brown, finishing with 202 rushing yards and scoring four touchdowns in a 44-14 victory over Rio Mesa. It appears as if Brown can take his sweet time recovering.
