Narbonne hasn’t been shy about its City Section championship aspirations, and a victory against a decent Mira Costa squad on Friday will add some legitimacy to all of that preseason chest-beating.

Of course, when you return a small army of starters, including quarterback-turned-recruiting-bait Josh Moten, it’s tough trying to stay modest. Season-opening victories over Inglewood and L.A. Hamilton also haven’t damaged the Gauchos’ sky-high expectations.

Those expectations, though, are backed by loads of talent. Moten is averaging more than 150 yards a game through the air, and his favorite target, USC-bound wide receiver Byron Moore Jr., pictured, has been picking apart secondaries with his flashy moves. Safety Sean Parker, who has offers from Stanford and Colorado, has two interceptions.

Narbonne has to be considered the favorite in this one, but Mira Costa, which has won two of its last three contests with the Gauchos, isn’t a Bay League doormat anymore.
