Football: Long Beach Poly wins, 32-15

Long Beach Poly’s Daveon Barner scored three touchdowns and rushed for 125 yards to help the Jackrabbits (4-0) win their 74th consecutive Moore League game with a 32-15 victory over Lakewood.

Poly led, 25-0, at halftime and actually put together a passing attack, with quarterback Morgan Fennell completing six of nine for 100 yards. But in the second half, the Jackrabbits struggled through the air, with Fennell throwing an interception and almost having two other passes picked off.

Lakewood quarterback Jesse Scroggins threw two touchdown passes and finished 15 of 35 for 201 yards. Poly hurt itself with 14 penalties and two lost fumbles. But the Jackrabbits’ defense was outstanding.

Next up for Poly is a Friday night game against St. Bonaventure at Long Beach Veterans Stadium.
