St. John Bosco’s Auburn Jimenez nailed a 31-yard field goal as time expired in the first half, reducing Servite’s lead at 21-17 at halftime. This came after the Friars called timeout twice trying to freeze the kicker. After one timeout, Servite actually blocked Jimenez’s kick, but it came after the referees flagged St. John Bosco for illegal procedure. A weird turn of events indeed.

The theme of the second quarter could be each team taking advantage of the other’s mistakes. Braves quarterback Keith Price ran out of bounds at the Friars’ 30-yard line with only 15 seconds remaining, but Servite was penalized for a late hit. That moved St. John Bosco to within range for Jimenez’s field goal.

Servite scored its only touchdown of the quarter on a drive following a St. John Bosco fumble at the Friars’ 32-yard line with 2:54 remaining. Three plays later, Servite quarterback Cody Farjado threw a 53-yard pass to wide receiver Jerell Brown, who was tackled at the one-yard line. Running back Gregory Portis’ one-yard touchdown run made it 21-14 with 1:34 left in the half. For the half Portis had 107 yards and two rushing touchdowns in 17 carries.

St. John Bosco receiver Will Shamburger caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Price at the 9:20 mark. Price showcased his mobility by running for 61 yards in 7 carries. He was 10 for 14 passing for 141 yards with two touchdowns.
