You can’t make mistakes against a good team like Ventura St. Bonaventure. Plain and simple. No one understands this well-known fact more than host Moorpark after it committed miscue after miscue Friday night in a 42-7 loss to the Seraphs in the Northern Division championship game.

Brady Rohach threw four interceptions for the Musketeers (12-2), three in the first half alone. Second quarter picks by Tim Bennett and Dylan Davis led to a 52-yard touchdown run by Devon Blackledge and an Isaiah Burton 10-yard touchdown reception, giving St. Bonaventure a 21-0 lead.

Just when things looked like they couldn’t get any worse, they did. Troy Hill returned an errant Rohach pass 58 yards for a score to increase the advantage to 28-0 at intermission. And St. Bonaventure (13-1) didn’t let up in the second half, even when officials used a running clock over the final 8:51 of the game.

Backup Brian Blechen replaced Rohach in the third quarter and didn’t fair much better. One of his misguided passes found Davis, and minutes later, Burton scored on an 8-yard pass play from Logan Meyer. Rohach returned on the following possession and was promptly intercepted by P.J. Gremaud.

The ball was bouncing the Seraphs way early on. On their second possession, Meyer fired a pass to JB Dock, the ball ricocheted off his helmet, toward Tieler Souza, who caught the ball in stride and raced 80 yards for a touchdown to give St. Bonaventure a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
