The strength of Westchester is its guards, and they have helped the Comets take a 39-31 lead over Fairfax at halftime of the Western League game at Fairfax.

Jordin Mayes has scored 14 points and Dominique O’Connor has seven points. Another guard, Denzel Douglas, has made two three-pointers.

Meanwhile, Renardo Sidney of Fairfax has been staying mostly outside and has scored 13 points, including three three-pointers in the first quarter.

Unless the Lions start getting the ball inside to Sidney and he starts to become more of an intimidator on the boards and on defense, the advantage is all Westchester.

USC Coach Tim Floyd showed up late in the second quarter, and two future Trojans came through. Solomon Hill of Fairfax scored a basket and Dwayne Polee Jr. of Westchester ended the quarter with a dunk on a missed shot.
