Boys’ basketball: LB Poly takes out Pasadena

Dominating from start to finish, Long Beach Poly defeated Pasadena, 51-43, Friday night in a Southern Section Division I-AA second-round playoff game. The Jackrabbits led, 9-0, after the first quarter, led by 15 points at halftime and led by 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Shelton Boykin scored 13 points for the Jackrabbits (23-5), who will play host to No. 3-seeded Compton Dominguez in Tuesday’s quarterfinals. George Toyama had 18 points for Pasadena (22-6), which had a 17-game win streak come to an end.

In another I-AA game, No. 4 seeded Los Alamitos was upset by Lynwood in overtime and Riverside King defeated Long Beach Wilson, 71-63. Mater Dei knocked off Upland, 85-52. Gary Franklin Jr. had 24 points and David Wear 23 points for the Monarchs.
