Granada Hills is holding a 30-year reunion of its 1979 City Section Championship baseball team on Saturday at 10 a.m., and the school will name its field after former coach Darryl Stroh.

‘That’s the last I heard,’ Stroh said Tuesday from his home in Arizona.

Stroh has reason to be cautious. Last year, the school was supposed to honor him by naming the field in his honor, then abruptly backed off after procedures apparently weren’t followed.

The question now is whether John Elway, a member of the 1979 team, will attend Saturday. Regardless, it’s great that Granada Hills is finally paying tribute to Stroh, who helped prepare countless numbers of football and baseball players during his long tenure at the school. He’s coming in for the ceremony.
