Basketball: Inglewood vying for pair of titles

For the first time in school history, the Inglewood boys’ and girls’ basketball teams have reached Southern Section championship games in the same season.

After the Lady Sentinels forfeited their first 12 victories (falling from 12-2 to 0-14) for using ineligible players, they have advanced to their first title game. Inglewood (15-15) plays Foothill (28-1) in Division III-A on Thursday at Mater Dei. The Lady Sentinels are led by Tayler Champion, who averages 13.8 points; and Hazel Ramirez, who averages 10.2.

The boys will make their eighth title-game appearance on Saturday when they play Ocean View (23-7) at Mater Dei for the Division IV-AA championship. Inglewood (24-7) is led by Dashawn Gomez, who averages 18.5 points; Desean Anderson, who averages 16.3; and Wesley White, who averages 10.6.
