Santa Ana Mater Dei’s quest for a perfect season just became easier when Concord De La Salle, ranked No. 2 in the state, was upset by Newark Memorial, 39-33, Wednesday night in a North Coast Section semifinal game, eliminating De La Salle (26-2) from consideration for the state playoffs.

That means the Southern California Regional winner will be heavily favored in the state Division I final March 21 at the Arco Arena. McClymonds becomes the likely choice to represent Northern California in the final.
