This is the weekend Catholic schools that belong to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles send out letters of acceptance to eighth-graders, so parents and athletes figure to be running to the mailbox on Saturday when they see the letter carrier coming.

It’s the high school version of receiving a letter of intent, and coaches will be waiting eagerly -- or not -- to find out which students decide to enroll.

‘I don’t worry about that stuff,’ Encino Crespi football Coach Jeremiah Ross said. ‘If they come, they come.’

Parents must send in a registration fee, but that still is not a final indication of enrollment. The certain sign is when the student shows up for classes in the fall.

Public school coaches will be waiting to see which athletes they lose within their neighborhood. It’s a big deal, with lots of future high school standouts in the mix.

Stay tuned.
