This summer, former San Francisco 49er teammates Joe Montana and Jesse Sapolu figure to meet when their sons’ football teams play in the Huntington Beach Edison seven-on-seven passing tournament July 11.

Montana’s son, Nick, is the starting quarterback for Oaks Christian. Sapolu’s son, Roman, is a starting offensive lineman for the Chargers, where Jesse serves as an assistant coach.

The passing tournament will feature one of the strongest fields of the summer. Among the teams entered are Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, Encino Crespi, Mater Dei, Los Alamitos, South Hills, Valencia and Tesoro.

Edison Coach Dave White promises to put Oaks Christian in a competitive bracket so the talented Lions will get a chance to match themselves against the best. That should be one of the highlights of the summer passing season.
