After holding a nine-point halftime lead, top-seeded Brea Olinda outscored Huntington Beach Edison, 25-3, in the third quarter, which led to a 62-40 victory in the girls Southern Section Division II-AA championship game at Santa Ana Mater Dei High.

All three of Edison’s third-quarter points came on free throws.

Brea junior guard Kelsey Harris scored 18 of her game-high 22 points on three-point baskets. Both senior guard Jonae Ervin and sophomore forward Justine Hartman had 12 for the Ladycats.

Sophomore forward Bonnie Samuelson led Edison (24-5) with 14 points, making all five of her free throws, and sophomore guard Christina Marquette had nine points.

Brea Olinda (29-2), making its 22nd finals appearance, claimed its 16th championship. Edison’s last title-game appearance was in 1987 when it beat Ventura Buena for the Division 4-A championship.
