Baseball: Lots of upsets in tournament play

It’s the second week of the high school baseball season, and the upsets have started as teams continue to experiment to see what kind of pitching depth they have.

No. 2-ranked El Toro was beaten by Anaheim Loara, 5-1, on Tuesday in the Loara tournament. Other ranked teams to fall were Chatsworth and Simi Valley.

Michael Lorenzen, a junior outfielder at Fullerton, had four hits, including a three-run walk-off home run, to enable Fullerton to defeat La Serna, 12-9.

Gabrielino’s Calvin Chambers struck out 15 and threw a one-hitter in a 9-0 victory over Duarte.

Hueneme’s Jesus Valdez had a double, triple and home run in his team’s 13-9 victory over Palmdale.
