Junior All-City guard Jordin Mayes of Westchester didn’t have a particularly good shooting game Thursday in the Comets’ 55-54 Division I Southern California regional victory over Fairfax.

But he contributed in many other ways, taking three charging fouls and using his dribbling skills to create the opportunity for Dwayne Polee to make the game-winning shot with four seconds left.

The juniors on Westchester (33-2) have been coming on strong, giving the Comets a real chance in their regional final Saturday at 8 p.m. against Riverside King at Pauley Pavilion. Reggie Murphy, a 6-foot-9 junior, had four baskets over 6-11 Renardo Sidney Thursday. Junior Denzel Douglas hit a key three-pointer in the fourth quarter.
