SACRAMENTO -- The state basketball championships won’t be played in Sacramento next year because Arco Arena is unavailable, so that means Fresno or Bakersfield could be the final destination.

Both communities have made bids, along with facilities in Oakland, Anaheim and Stockton. Next year’s state playoffs will be played over three weeks because the CIF is expected to expand its regionals to 16 teams for each division.

The weather is great in Sacramento for today’s state finals, which start at 1:30 p.m. with Los Angeles Windward playing Alameda St. Joseph Notre Dame for the Division V boys’ championship.

The featured game will be the 8 o’clock Division II boys’ final in which 6-foot-10 UCLA-bound Brendan Lane will try to lead Rocklin past Rialto Eisenhower.
