So much for the invincibility of Huntington Beach Edison, Lake Forest El Toro and Santa Ana Mater Dei. They all lost league games on Friday.

Edison suffered its first Sunset League defeat, losing to Fountain Valley, 5-4. It means the Chargers (15-3, 8-1) are tied for first place with Huntington Beach Marina (18-2, 8-1) going into their critical two-game series next week.

El Toro (16-4, 8-1) lost for the first time in the Sea View League, 3-2, to Irvine Northwood on Bryce Hara’s walk-off home run.

And Mater Dei (16-3, 7-2) was stunned by Anaheim Servite, 5-4, in the Trinity League.

What does it mean that three elite teams go down to defeat?

It shows how difficult it is to keep winning when there are so many good pitchers and well-coached teams.
