Kevin Martinez, a freshman pitcher in only his second appearance since returning from a broken ankle, allowed one hit in five innings to help San Fernando defeat Sylmar, 13-0, in a mercy-rule game for first place in the Valley Mission League.

He struck out seven to enable the Tigers (15-8, 9-1) to take over first place from the Spartans (16-9, 8-2). Mario Elam had a home run, double and four RBIs.
