Upon further review, it’s Woodland Hills El Camino Real that might have the best seeding for the City Section Division I baseball playoffs that begin this week.

It turns out that the third-seeded Conquistadores’ first-round opponent on Wednesday, Los Angeles Roosevelt, has lost seven starters this month to academic ineligibility, injury or disciplinary matters. So even though the Rough Riders are 27-7, they are not close to the team that started the year 9-0.

If El Camino Real wins as expected, the Conquistadores would advance to play the winner of Banning-Palisades, and both those schools are going to have to use their No. 1 pitchers in what figures to be a very competitive opener.

So all the Conquistadores have to do is figure out how to probably beat Chatsworth in a semifinal game at Chatsworth. They did it once this season.
